Professor Barbara Murphy

A/Prof Barbara Murphy, Associate Director, Australian Centre for Heart Health; Principal Research Fellow, School of Psychology, University of Melbourne, has 35 years’ experience in research, program development and evaluation. Her work focusses on investigating and improving the psychosocial and mental health of people with heart disease through empirical and translational research. She initiated the Cardiac Blues Program which has impacted cardiac rehabilitation across Australia and internationally. Her recent work focuses on the mental health impacts of Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD). She has over 150 peer-reviewed publications and collaborates with national and international experts in the psycho-cardiology field. She has extensive experience in all aspects of both qualitative and quantitative research methods; the development and psychometric assessment of clinical assessment tools; and the translation of research evidence into program development and evaluation.
