Professor Jose Luis De La Pompa Minguez

José Luis de la Pompa, PhD, is Full Professor and Group Leader of the Intercellular Signaling in Cardiovascular Development and Disease Laboratory at CNIC, Madrid, since 2009. He trained at EMBL Heidelberg and the Amgen Institute in Toronto, where he began work on cardiac valve morphogenesis, and later led groups at EMBL Monterotondo, IRO Barcelona and CNB-CSIC. His research examines how signaling pathways, notably NOTCH, NRG1 and BMP2 from the endocardium, regulate ventricular, valve and coronary development. Using CRISPR mouse models, single-cell omics and human iPSCs, his team studies congenital heart disease, left ventricular noncompaction, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and the placenta-heart axis, seeking therapeutic targets for heart repair. He speaks Spanish and English, and enjoys walking in nature, running and travelling.
