Philip Wenzel was born July 28th 1976 in Freiburg, Germany. From 1995-2002 he studied medicine in Erlangen, Barcelona and Hamburg. He graduated from medical school in 2002 with A grades and completed his doctoral thesis work in the Institute for Sports medicine in 2003 with magna cum laude in Hamburg. He completed his clinical training at the University Hospital Hamburg Eppendorf and University Medical Center Mainz (UMCM) from 2003 to 2011 (board certification for internal medicine in 2009 and for cardiology in 2011, DGK-specialisation in interventional cardiology 2014 and heart failure 2019). He was a post doc in the lab of Thomas Münzel and a Junior Group Leader at the Center for Thrombosis in Hemostasis (CTH, director: Prof. Walter) from 2011 to 2014. He currently holds a faculty position at the Center for Cardiology as deputy director (director: Thomas Münzel), double affiliated with the CTH (director: Wolfram Ruf) as Professor for Vascular Inflammation at UMCM.
