Doctor Matthias Schmitt

Matthias qualified from the Goethe University in Frankfurt and since 2008 is the service Lead for advanced Cardiac Imaging at the Manchester University Foundation Trust (MFT, South Campus) where he set up CMR imaging in 2008 and Cardiac CT in 2015. Matthias was a BSCMR board member from 2012-2018 and is currently an executive committee member of the British Society of Cardiac Imaging (BSCI) where he is the research lead. He is was the medical Staff Governor for MFT, the largest acute Hospital Trust in the UK, as well as the medical governance lead for community Echo services for PDS Medical. Matthias has a longstanding interest in Cardiovascular research and has published [>150 peer reviewed manuscripts] across a wide spectrum of cardiovascular medicine. He has contributed to research income in-excess of £ 6 Million. His current research focuses on the development of cardiovascular imaging-based biomarkers and therapies in primary heart muscle disorders and cancer survivors.
