Biography
Dr. Lewis is the Simon H. Stertzer, MD Professor of Medicine and Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. He has an interest in preventing the development of and progression of heart failure by investigating novel strategies and therapies for treating early heart failure and co-morbid illnesses that are risk factors for heart failure. He performs quality of life research to better understand how to improve these outcomes and include them into medical decision making. As an advanced heart disease specialist, he specializes in the management of patients with advanced heart failure, heart transplantation, and those with mechanical circulatory support devices. His work has included understanding the biological and social factors that influence patient reported outcomes and progression of disease from risk factors (e.g., diabetes, CKD). He holds numerous leadership positions in national organizations, including AHA, ACC, and ABC.
