Biography
Michiel Rienstra graduated in medicine (cum laude) at the University of Antwerp, Belgium in 2003. Obtained his PhD at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands in 2007 on Atrial Fibrillation, Underlying Disease and Prognosis. He completed his cardiology training at the University Medical Center Groningen in 2012, followed by training as device cardiologist and electrophysiologist. He holds s Master of Health Administration of the TIAS school of Business and Society, was Clinical Director of Department of Cardiology and chair of Heart Center at the University Medical Center Groningen. He is a Professor of Clinical Cardiology and specialized in AF, devices and HF. He combines treatment of patients with arrhythmias and HF with clinic-oriented AF and HF research (conducting investigator-initiated clinical, epidemiological, and genetic collaborative studies). He was Task Force coordinator of the ESC 2024 AF management guidelines.
