Associate Professor Prabhakara Nagareddy

The research in Dr. Nagareddy lab is mainly focused on understanding the signaling pathways of aberrant myelopoiesis particular granulopoiesis in diabetes/ obesity and study its impact on cardiovascular disease. More specifically, they study the cross talk between the peripheral tissues and the bone marrow with a focus on neutrophils. For the past few years, they are specifically examining the role of myeloid related proteins, S100A8 and S100A9 that are emerging as key signaling molecules in chronic-low grade inflammation. Further, they are also developing various therapeutic strategies (e.g. monoclonal antibodies, pharmacological inhibitors) to reduce inflammation and improve outcomes in cardiovascular (e.g. atherosclerosis, heart failure) and metabolic diseases (e.g. diabetes, obesity, insulin resistance) by directly targeting leukocytosis.
