From 2003 to 2006 he performed a post-doctoral training in the Stem Cell Institute at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, USA. In May 2006, he joined the Center for Molecular and Vascular Biology (CMVB) as a principal investigator and introduced a new line of research related to endothelial cell (EC) biology In 2007 he was awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant (‘IMAGINED’) allowing to establish himself as an independent investigator. He was appointed as BOF Associate Professor since October 2009 and BOF Professor since October 2015 at KU Leuven and now leads the Endothelial Cell Biology Unit at the CMVB.
