Janet Hanley has Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD from Queen Margaret University. She has a clinical background in community nursing and community service development and NHS research management. Her research interests include the interface between self-care and health care and the introduction of new technologies into health care and she has run successful clinical trials of telemonitoring in a range of long term conditions, including hypertension. She was involved in the successful development of a national blood pressure telemonitoring service in Scotland and is currently using routine clinical records to measure the impact of that service on the incidence of major cardiovascular events.
