Biography
Dr Jean-Pierre Benitah is an Inserm Director of Research and Head of Calcium Signaling and Cardiovascular Pathophysiology Team, Inserm-Université Paris-Saclay. Internationally recognized expert of cardiac ion channel and calcium signaling, his main research focus on the regulatory mechanisms of functional expression of cardiac ionic channels involved in arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death, notably during pathological processes such as heart failure, using integrated approaches from the molecule to the organism and state-of-art techniques (bioluminescence, immunoblotting, qRT-PCR, proteomic, electrophysiology and confocal Ca2+ imaging). He was the first to record L-type Ca2+ currents in human ventricular cardiomyocytes, to demonstrate the heterogeneous down regulation of transient outward K+ current in cardiac hypertrophy in both human and animal models which happen before the cardiac remodeling in heart failure initiation. His team was the first to demonstrate that main target of car
