Leonardo Bolognese gained his medical degree with honours in 1980 from the University of Pisa School of Medicine in Italy, where he also completed his postgraduate training. His hospital appointments have included the Novara Hospital and the Careggi Hospital in Florence. He is the author of over 300 articles published in international medical journals. He was the chairman of the ACTOR study and the principal investigator as well as a member of the steering committees of many international RCTs. Professor Bolognese is currently an associate professor at the University of Siena and Director of the Cardiovascular and Neurological Department at Azienda Ospedaliera Arezzo. He is also a past president of the Italian Society of Invasive Cardiology, a past chair of the Emergency-Urgency Board of the National Society of Hospital Cardiologists (ANMCO) in Italy, Editor Giornale Italiano di Cardiologia, pastPresident Italian Federation of Cardiology and fellow of ESC and FACC
