Biography
Bryan Williams is Chair of Medicine at University College London (UCL) and Chief Scientist and Chief Medical Officer of the British Heart Foundation. He is a senior physician at UCL Hospitals. For a decade previously he was Director of the National Institutes for Health Research (NIHR) UCL Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre. Professor Williams research and clinical practice in the field of high blood pressure has led him to be recognised as one of the world's leading authorities. He is past-Chairman of the ESC Council on Hypertension and ESC Chairman of the ESC/ESH Hypertension guideline task force (2018) and Past-President of the British Hypertension Society (2001–2003) and is President of the International Society of Hypertension (2022-2024). He was awarded an OBE in the King's New Years Honours list 2024 for services to medicine.
