Bryan Williams is Chair of Medicine at University College London (UCL) and Director of the National Institutes for Health Research (NIHR) UCL Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre and Director of Research for UCL Hospitals where he is a Consultant Physician, member of the Senior Directors Team and Board Member. Professor Williams research and clinical practice in the field of high blood pressure has led him to be recognised as one of the world's leading authorities and through which he has led or participated in many national and international clinical trials that have changed clinical practice. He leads one of the largest Biomedical Research Centres in Europe. He is immediate past-Chairman of the ESC Council on Hypertension and ESC Chairman of the ESC/ESH Hypertension guideline task force (2018) and was Chairman of the NICE Hypertension Guidelines Development Group (published in 2011). He is the past President of the British Hypertension Society (2001–2003).
