Dr Fernando Botto is a cardiologist with expertise in acute cardiovascular care, atherosclerosis and vascular ageing. He has been trained in Health Research Methodology in the field of Clinical Epidemiology (MSc) at McMaster University and Population Health Research Institute (PHRI), Hamilton, Canada. He has also a MSc in Clinical Effectiveness in a joint program between Buenos Aires University and Harvard School of Public Health (US). Nowadays, he lives in Argentina and is the Chief Clinical Research Officer at Instituto Cardiovascular de Buenos Aires. He also works as cardiologist in the outpatient clinic. His prior research was focused on Acute Coronary Syndromes, Chest Pain Units and Troponin. His thesis at McMaster University pioneered the MINS concept (myocardial injury after non-cardiac surgery), under the mentorship of PJ Devereaux, Gordon Guyatt, Lehana Thabane and Salim Yusuf. His current research topic is atherosclerosis burden determined by imaging techniques.
