Dr. Mathias Meine is working at the University Medical Center Utrecht, the Neteherlands, as cardiologist/eletrophysiologist since 2005. He studied medicine at the Ruhr-University Bochum (Germany) from 1986 – 1992. In 1993 he became the doctoral degree for medicine for his dissertation “Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) for detection of luminal and transmural vessel morphology - three dimensional reconstruction and histopathologic correlation”. In 2002 he became specialist in internal medicine and in 2004 in cardiology. In 2010 he got the “European Accreditation in Cardiac Pacing and Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators (EHRA)”. During his work as device-cardiologist he performed studies about ICD and CRT optimization. He initiated as principal investigator the multi-center randomized trial about remote patient monitoring (RCIED) in Europe. His research group includes fundamental researchers to develop new innovations for ICDs in heart failure patients.
