Biography
Mark Pepin currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Experimental Cardiology of Heidelberg University (2020 - Present), where he works in the laboratory of Prof. Med. Johannes Backs. He holds both MD and PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where his dissertation research explored the genetic and epigenetic underpinnings of human heart failure. His research interests include epigenetic mechanisms of cardiac metabolism, bioinformatics, and gene therapy. To-date he has published 22 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 11 of which were as the first-author. His postdoctoral research is funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which aims to uncover the epigenetic basis of heart failure-induced carcinogenesis.
