Biography
Philippe Debonnaire (MD, PhD, FESC) graduated as cardiologist and obtained a Master degree in Sports Medicine, both at Leuven University (Belgium). Subsequently, he obtained a PhD, based on non-invasive cardiac imaging research at Leiden University Medical Hospital (the Netherlands), supported by an ESC Research Grant, promoted by Prof Jeroen Bax and co-promoted by Prof Victoria Delgado and Prof Nina Ajmone Marsan. Since 2013 he works as cardiologist (interventional echocardiographist) in Sint-Jan Hospital Bruges (Belgium) with clinical and scientific focus on (advanced) echocardiographic techniques (3D, strain, stress, TOE). Apart from valvular and structural heart disease, his current focus includes cardiac amyloidosis, with ongoing publications. He is immediate BWGNICI past-president, current EACVI Scientific Committee board member (former EACVI HIT and Education Committee positions), responsible for the echocardiography imaging fellowship in his centre.
