Professor Michael Shapiro

I am the inaugural Fred M. Parrish Professor of Cardiology and Molecular Medicine at Wake Forest University where I am on faculty in the Section of CV Medicine. My clinical and research fellowship focused on advanced CV imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. My clinical interests focus on genetic and acquired disorders of lipoprotein metabolism, atherosclerosis Imaging, and CV risk assessment. I am now Director of the Center for Prevention of CVD at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. I have published extensively in the areas of atherosclerosis imaging, lipid disorders, and preventive cardiology. My current investigative research was funded by the NIH and focuses on PCSK9 physiology and its impact on lipoprotein metabolism. Additionally, I am an active MESA investigator at Wake Forest. I am also engaged in clinical trials testing novel lipid modulating therapeutics. I am a member of numerous boards and national committees.
