Doctor Pancras Wong

Pancras Wong, PhD, FAHA, is Senior Research Fellow at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. He received his B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Oregon and Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Minnesota. He is a co-discoverer of losartan (Cozaar®), the first-in-class of antihypertensive drugs known as angiotensin II receptor blockers. His work led to the discovery of receptor subtypes for angiotensin II. He is a co-discoverer of apixaban (Eliquis®), a best-in-class oral anticoagulant (Factor Xa inhibitor), for the treatment of thrombosis. He is the author of 180 papers and 17 patents. His publications received more than 15,000 citations, leading to a Hirsh index of 57. He has received many awards, including the American Chemical Society Awards for the discovery of Cozaar® and Eliquis®, the Robert R. Ruffolo Career Achievement Award in Pharmacology from ASPET and the Sir James Black Award for Contributions to Drug Discovery from the British Pharmacological Society.
