Dr Protty is a Wales Clinical Academic Track (WCAT) registrar in Cardiology at Cardiff University and the Wales deanery. He completed his PhD in 2021 at Cardiff University as part of the prestigious Wellcome Trust GW4CAT Fellowship looking at procoagulant phospholipids in arterial thrombosis. His academic interests include clinical, translational and epidemiological cardiovascular studies examining inflammatory driven cardiovascular disease. He achieved EAPCI certification in 2024.
