Dr. Silvia Mariani is a cardiac surgeon with interest in the field of heart failure and mechanical circulatory support (MCS), working at the Cardiac Surgery Unit at Fondazione IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori (Monza, Italy). Dr. Mariani completed her clinical training as cardiac surgeon in Italy and The Nethelands, where her mentors encouraged her toward an international perspective and deep interest in research and MCS. She further developed this interest during her fellowship at Glenfield Hospital (Leicester, UK) where she became extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) specialist. Dr. Mariani further improved her clinical and pre-clinical research skills joining the MCS team at Hannover Medical School (Germany) and Maastricht University (The Netherlands). Her research interests include the pre-clinical test of novel MCS devices, their less invasive applications, their perioperative management and implementation in the digital era of heart failure.
