Dr. Mahmoud Abdellatif is an assistant (Tenure-Track) Professor at the Department of Cardiology, Medical University of Graz (Austria). In his research, Dr. abdellatif studies the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular aging to exploit them in the development of effective interventions that extend lifespan and delay late-life chronic diseases, including heart failure. Through his research, he contributed to discovering the cardioprotective and longevity-promoting effects of targeting autophagy, using spermidine and other caloric restriction mimetics. He has received various prestigious awards for his work including, the Oskar Lapp prize (2023), the Guido Tarone award (2020) and the young investigator award of the ESC Heart Failure Association (2017). Dr. Abdellatif qualified in clinical medicine and as a nucleus member of the WG on Myocardial Function, he is actively involved in providing a platform for basic and clinically-oriented scientists interested in cardiac health.
