Biography
Associate Professor Mary Ryder was the first clinical nurse specialist and advanced nurse practitioner in Ireland. Mary commenced working in heart failure in 1998 at St Vincent's University Hospital and led on the development of heart failure nursing nationally and in Europe through education and representation of nursing on the HFA Board from 2006-2011. Dr Ryder led heart failure integrated care pathways for Advanced Nurse Practitioners commencing residential and palliative care in the home outreach services from St. Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin. Dr Ryder returned to Ireland following a five-year period in Australia and commenced her role in University College Dublin. Dr Ryder is the programme director for the Master's degree in Advanced Nurse Practice at UCD. Her research interests span three specialist areas: advanced practice, Education and heart failure. Dr Ryder has secured over €1m in funding in the past five years related to the preventio of heart failure among women.
