Shirley is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in cardiology nursing and specialises in coronary heart disease diagnosis, acute and chronic. She assesses patients autonomously in the Emergency Dept. of a large Dublin teaching hospital. She also runs a community chest pain clinic which enables general practitioners to refer those with non acute chest pain directly within the community, avoiding hospital. Shirley has a lengthy background in cardiology nursing including CCU, Cardiac rehabilitation and clinical management. She is a nurse prescriber of medication and referrer of ionising radiation. Shirley has published on chest pain assessment and was proud to win the 'excellence in clinical care award' in 2019. She practices as ANP lead of a nurse led chest pain team. Shirley is a committee member of INCA , the Irish Nurses Cardiovascular Association.
