Biography
Dr Omar Ahmed is a senior cardiology and electrophysiology physician, doctoral researcher, and clinical trialist completing specialist training in 2026. He has trained across major London cardiac centres, including St George’s and Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals, with clinical interests in complex atrial arrhythmia management, atrial fibrillation ablation, heart failure-associated AF, device therapy, and inherited cardiac conditions. His academic work focuses on persistent AF complicated by heart failure, a high-risk population in whom optimal rhythm-control strategy remains uncertain. He led the development and delivery of HALT AF, a multicentre randomised trial evaluating Convergent hybrid ablation versus catheter ablation in patients with persistent AF and heart failure. Through this work, Dr Ahmed aims to refine patient selection for advanced rhythm-control therapies and improve evidence-based treatment strategies for patients with complex AF and heart failure.
