Biography
Dr. Carlos L. Alviar is a cardiologist and critical care specialist who serves as assistant professor of cardiovascular medicine at New York University School of Medicine. He is also the director of the cardiac and coronary care unit at Bellevue Hospital Center at New York University Langone Medical Center. Dr. Alviar has held several research positions, first at Baylor College of Medicine and the Cardiovascular Research Foundation/Columbia University. He completed his training and chief residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, followed by his cardiovascular disease fellowship training at NYU and cardiac critical care at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Alviar has published numerous manuscripts and book chapters and presented his work at many international meetings. He is the recipient of several research awards. His current academic interests include cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, hemodynamic support, cardiac critical care and ventilator management in the cardiac patient.
