Biography
Dr Miguel Torres research career has focused on embryonic development, organogenesis and regeneration. Following a PhD on Biology, Dr Torres specialized in mouse developmental genetics at the Max-Planck of Biophysical Chemistry (Goettingen). In 1996 he established a research group in the National Center for Biotechnology and relocated in 2007 to the National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC, Madrid), where he served as Associate Director for several years. His research focuses on understanding organ patterning/regeneration and characterizing tissue quality control mechanisms. His contributions have modified concepts rooted in the field for decades, providing new models that are now of reference in textbooks. The work of Dr Torres on the topic of cell Competition has opened new avenues to understand and stimulate organ regeneration in mammals. Since 2022,Dr Torres coordinates the Cardiovascular Regeneration Program at CNIC.
