Biography
Marja Hedman, MD, PhD serves as a Professor of Cardiology at the University of Eastern Finland and at the Heart Center of Kuopio University Hospital. Her research background focuses on the development of gene therapies for atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease, and she has been involved in establishing some of the first clinical gene therapy trials in Finland. Her main interest of the current research is in advanced cardiovascular multimodality imaging and in risk prediction. She has extensive experience as a principal investigator in numerous academic clinical studies as well as in commercial international drug trials. In her clinical work, she serves as a trainer in cardiovascular multimodality imaging. She is the president of the Finnish Cardiac Society and Vice Chair of the Cardiovascular Diseases Research Community at the University of Eastern Finland. In addition to her native language Finnish, she speaks English, Swedish and French.
