Professor Patel is an academic cardiologist with a clinical and research interest in coronary artery disease risk and prevention. He graduated in medicine from King’s College London in 2001, before undertaking clinical training in London and a research fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta. He currently holds a research chair at UCL and is a practising consultant cardiologist at Barts Health and UCLH NHS Trusts.
Professor Patel's research group focuses on using data science approaches including genomics, for understanding cardiovascular risk and enhancing primary and secondary prevention. He leads several initiatives in the field including a global consortium of CHD studies (www.GENIUS-CHD.org). To support the translation of his research into clinical practice, Professor Patel has developed and leads novel CVD prevention services encompassing clinical and population health, at The Bart’s Heart Centre serving the London region.
