He was awarded his academical (MD (1990), MSc (1994), PhD (2008)) degrees at Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana (FM-UL), and is licensed Specialist of both (1) Internal Medicine and (2) Cardiology & Vascular Medicine. His clinical activities encompass different aspects in CV medicine, while his scientific work is focused on atherosclerosis and disorders of lipid metabolism, epidemiology and preventive cardiology. From 2008 he holds position of Medical Director, Division of Medicine, at the UMC Ljubljana, and Professor of Internal Medicine (Circulation), at the FM-UL (Chair of Internal Medicine). He is state appointed Chairman of the Slovene National Programme on CVD Prevention, and President of the Slovenian Society of Cardiology. In 2001 elected as Fellow of the ESC, and in 2013 as Fellow of the ACC. He served as President of the UEMS (2006-11). He is (co-)author of 680 scientific units - full list available online at www.cobiss.si - national scientific bibliography system.
