Professor Thierry Gillebert

Ghent University, Ghent (Belgium)

Member of:

European Society of Cardiology

Thierry Gillebert is emeritus professor of Cardiology at Ghent University (BE) and former clinical head of the department. As a young scientist, he worked in physiological laboratories in Antwerp (University of Antwerp, BE) and in La Jolla, CA, USA (University California San Diego). He published many scientific contributions on experimental diastolic function in animal models. His clinical expertise is cardiovascular imaging and heart failure. He is an expert on diastolic function and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. More recently he worked on the epidemiological Asklepios cohort study, applying concepts developed in animal models to this epidemiological dataset. This translational work lead e.g. to novel views on ventricular-arterial coupling. Thierry Gillebert has served the ESC in various functions. In 2013 he was chairman of the task force "Core Curriculum in Cardiology". As an emeritus professor he has a busy review activity.
