Dr. Van Spall completed a Doctor of Medicine degree and postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Echocardiography at the University of Toronto. She then completed a Master of Public Health degree at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Van Spall is a cardiologist and scientist at McMaster University and the Population Health Research Institute. Supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), she leads clinical trials and big data research in heart failure, health services, and digital health. She serves on several journal and media editorial boards, is a member of the College of Reviewers at CIHR, and is an invited speaker at international conferences. She has garnered more than $4.0 million in peer-reviewed research funding, has won several research awards, and has published her work in high-impact medical journals.
