Biography
John Floras is Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Director of Research for the University Health Network–Sinai Health Cardiology Division. From 1995-1999 he was Head of Cardiology at Mount Sinai. From 2004-2018, he held the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Integrative Cardiovascular Biology. In 1985 he established the first microneurographic-cardiovascular laboratory in Canada. Since, he has investigated human circulatory and cardiac control mechanisms in human health and disease, with particular emphasis on the role of the autonomic nervous system, cardiovascular peptides, and sleep-related breathing disorders in heart failure. He served as Vice-Chair of the multinational CANPAP and ADVENT-HF trials, evaluating the cardiovascular benefits of treating sleep apnea when present in heart failure and co-edited ‘Sleep Apnea: Implications for Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease’. He is past Chair of the Banting Research Foundation.
