Biography
Dr. Stefano Morotti received his undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Bologna, Italy, completing his PhD in Bioengineering in 2013 under the supervision of Dr. Stefano Severi. He joined the Pharmacology Department at UC Davis for his postdoctoral training under the supervision of Drs. Ele Grandi and Donald Bers, and was appointed as faculty in the same Department in 2020. Dr. Morotti's research focuses on the development mathematical models and computational tools to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms of complex cardiovascular diseases, such as heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and hypertension. A common theme of his research is in utilizing these computational frameworks to quantitatively assess the role and crosstalk of ion homeostasis and intracellular signaling pathways in health and disease. The overall goal of his research is to identify therapeutic targets, inform treatment strategies, and predict the outcome of pharmacological treatment.
