Tuomas Kiviniemi, MD, PhD, FESC, is Professor of Cardiology and an interventional cardiologist at the Heart Center, Turku University Hospital and the University of Turku. He serves as the President of the Finnish Cardiac Society for the term 2024–2026. He completed his medical training in Turku, Finland, and pursued a research fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
Professor Kiviniemi leads a research group focused on atrial fibrillation, particularly in patients undergoing cardiac procedures. His work spans clinical trials, translational research, and long-term outcomes after percutaneous and surgical interventions. He is the principal investigator of the CAREFIB Consortium, which includes the CAREBANK, CAREiCON, and LAA-CLOSURE studies.
