Dr Elena Surkova obtained her primary medical qualification in Russia and specialized in internal medicine, cardiology and cardiovascular imaging. She has successfully combined clinical and research work, completed her PhD in cardiology and cardiovascular surgery and was involved in development of relevant national guidelines. She participated and led on national and international research projects including those funded through EACVI and ESC grants and got advanced training in cardiovascular imaging in University of Padua (Italy) and Medical University of Vienna (Austria). Dr Surkova is a UK GMC registered cardiologist and currently works in the Department of Echocardiography at Royal Brompton Hospital (London, UK) closely collaborating with academic, research and industrial organizations across Europe and beyond. She has co-authored >50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. Dr Surkova previously served as an EACVI HIT Ambassador for Russian Federation.
