Biography
Miguel Alvarez Villela is a cardiologist with dual board certification by the ABIM in Interventional Cardiology and Advanced Heart Failure Transplant Cardiology. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Navarra in Spain he relocated to the US. There he completed his cardiology and interventional training at Montefiore Medical Center and his heart failure training at the University of Utah. His main areas of clinical and research interest are cardiogenic shock and mechanical circulatory support. He helped develop the cardiogenic shock program within Northwell Health and the ECMO program at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC. He also created and currently directs the Northwell-Shock registry, a multicenter registry of cardiogenic shock patients including six thousand patients. Dr. Alvarez Villela also has a strong interest in global health and is the founder of the Open Heart Honduras program, an initiative to develop advanced cardiac services in his home country.
