Biography
Pinelopi Manousou is a Consultant Hepatologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Professor of Practice in Metabolic Liver Disease at Imperial College London, and Co-Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Steatotic Liver Disease. She trained in Gastroenterology in Greece and completed advanced training in hepatology and liver transplantation at the Royal Free Hospital.
Her work has helped establish the prevalence and clinical impact of MASLD in patients with chronic hepatitis B through a large multicentre European study and has demonstrated the cost-effectiveness of MASLD screening in patients with type 2 diabetes, supporting implementation of screening pathways in routine clinical care. She has also pioneered the use of digital pathology and machine learning for quantitative assessment of liver biopsies.
She is the External Affairs Councillor elect of EASL, serves on the Board of Directors of the University of Ioannina, and is Communication Lead for the MASLD SIG AASLD.
