Biography
Mr Rob Simons is a PhD researcher in the field of cardio-oncology at the University of Hasselt. Driven by his own passion for sports, his research focuses on the cardioprotective mechanisms of exercise training to modulate chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity. His work combines animal models, molecular biology, cell physiology and advanced imaging techniques to investigate how exercise training modulates cardiac remodelling and mitochondrial metabolism. Through this multidisciplinary approach, he aims to contribute to the development of exercise-based strategies to protect the heart during cancer treatment.
