Biography
Simona Indzhova earned her Honours Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences, with a minor in French, from McMaster University. She began her PhD studies in the Biochemistry & Biomedical Sciences program at McMaster University in September 2025, under the supervision of Dr Marie Pigeyre at the Population Health Research Institute. Her doctoral research focuses on leveraging AI-derived quantitative retinal vascular imaging metrics to predict incident cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and hypertension. She is also investigating the use of metabolomics to elucidate biological associations between retinal vasculature and the development of these cardiometabolic conditions. Through her doctoral training, Simona is developing expertise in epidemiological methods, cohort-based data analysis, statistical modelling, and the R programming language. Outside of research, she enjoys reading and writing and tutors students in Grades 7-11 mathematics.
