Biography
Maria Lawal is a Patient Expert, keynote speaker, and childhood Osteosarcoma survivor with over 15 years’ experience in oncology research, patient engagement, and lived experience strategy. She specialises in embedding patient perspectives into clinical research, cardiovascular prevention, and healthcare innovation to improve outcomes and reduce inequalities.
Her expertise spans patient and public involvement (PPIE), co-production, health equity, and real-world data, with a focus on long-term survivorship and patient-centred prevention strategies. She works across multidisciplinary teams, facilitating collaboration between patients, clinicians, researchers, and industry to strengthen trust, communication, and clinical relevance.
Maria holds a degree in psychology and is a published children’s author promoting mindfulness and emotional wellbeing from an early age. Her work supports the shift towards inclusive, patient-led approaches in cardiovascular and oncology care.
