Doctor An Zwijsen

An Zwijsen is a full professor at KU Leuven (Belgium) in the Faculty of Medicine and a group leader in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences. Her research focus is on molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying blood vessel and lymphatic vessel development, with special emphasis on BMP/TGFbeta signaling pathways, endothelial cell biology, and vascular disease. Prof Zwijsen contributes to higher education through curriculum development in the Biomedical Sciences Faculty and coordination of several courses on Developmental Biology and Laboratory Animal Science at the Bachelor, Master and PhD levels. She is the chair of Animal Ethics Commission. She likes to reach out to non-academic audiences and talk about the relevance of basic sciences. She loves to inspire the scientists of the future (e.g. Kids University).
