Dr. Pepine received a BS from the Univ. of Pittsburgh and MD from Rutgers New Jersey School of Medicine. After residency, cardiology fellowship and US Navy duty he moved to the University of Florida and was Chief of Cardiology and held the AHA-Eminent Scholar Chair in CV Research and a UF-Research Foundation Professorship.
His career is focused on improving our understanding of IHD and mechanisms underlying coronary and vascular dysregulation. He has been, or is currently, PI of many NIH and industry-funded research projects on CVD in women, IHD, hypertension, heart failure, and cell-based therapy with continuous peer-review federal research funding for 40+ yrs. He has authored more than 1050 publications, edited 6 textbooks, and served on editorial boards of all major CVD journals and Editor in Chief of AHJPlus. He is past president of the ACC, FAHA, FESC and received many honors including the 2019 Wenger Award from WomenHeart and the 2018 ACC Bernadine Healy Leadership Award.
