Biography
Prof Julie McMullen (PhD, UNSW, Sydney, Australia) trained at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre and Harvard Medical School-Boston, before establishing her laboratory at the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute (2005). After almost 20 years at the Baker, she joined the Heart Research Institute (mid-2024) as Deputy Director and Director of Research. She is recognized for research which defined the molecular distinction between physiological and pathological heart enlargement in mouse models of health and disease. Her research interests also include atrial fibrillation, heart-derived organ crosstalk, cardiotoxicity and sex differences. She currently holds a NHMRC Investigator fellowship, and was recently appointed President-Elect of the International Society for Heart Research-Australasian Section.
