Academic Medical Centre, Amsterdam (Netherlands (The))
My research investigates the psychobiology of chronic medical disorders, with the aim to understand and mitigate the burden of disease. My dual expertise biology and psychology allows me to approach this topic in a genuinely interdisciplinary manner, whereby I integrate methods and concepts from both fields, and apply these to experimental laboratory studies, clinical investigations, and epidemiological analyses. This research is shaped in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders, such as patient advocacy groups and medical professionals.
A main research focus is on the role of immune dysregulation and host-microbe interactions in human behaviour. More recently this research has expanded to include Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as novel approaches to the analysis and modification of human behaviour and health. I hold a position in Clinical Psychobiology, a research field that investigates the interaction between the brain, physiology and behaviour.
