Biography
Marianne Reimers Wessberg is chief medical officer at Stiftelsen Stockholms Sjukhem, a private non-profit hospital treating patients in the fields of rehabilitation, geriatrics and palliative care. As a specialist in geriatrics she noticed that the most common cause for inpatient care in the clinic was heart failure and started to study heart failure among patients in geriatric care from different angles, such as investigation, diagnosing, pharmacotherapy, and communication between care givers. She also performed a registry study on patients with both heart failure and Alzheimer’s disease and found a significant correlation between treatment with cholinesterase inhibitors and lower risk of hospitalization due to heart failure, as well as lower mortality rate. Marianne Reimers Wessberg started her training to become physician in middle age after careers in journalism and music publishing.
