Gareth Owens, MSc. (Oxon), MBCS, CITP
Chair, Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland
Gareth leads the national patient charity for Aortic Dissection in the UK & Ireland and the global THINK AORTA campaign.
In 2016 he survived an acute Aortic Dissection and had extensive cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. Since discovering that many Aortic Dissection patients are not so fortunate, he found a new purpose leading the charity’s work of supporting patients and families, raising awareness of Aortic Dissection, partnering in research and driving change in the healthcare system. Gareth is a passionate advocate for ending healthcare inequalities and improving diagnosis, care and outcomes in Aortic Dissection. He co-leads the DECIDE-TAD research programme.
Gareth studied Applied Physics at the University of Central Lancashire and worked for the NHS, then international healthcare companies including Hewlett-Packard, Roche and GSK.
He holds an MSc with Distinction from the University of Oxford.
