Mrs Catarina Carrao

Catarina Carrão is the founder and owner of BioSciPons, which provides research, medical writing and consulting services to the life sciences sector. She specializes in regulatory affairs, clinical evaluation and benefit-risk assessment of AI-enabled medical technologies, including clinical decision support software. She is an expert for the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), the European Innovation Council (EIC), EIT Health, and the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC). She has published articles on AI trustworthiness and regulatory sandboxes, and authored a book chapter on market access for digital health technologies. She spent more than 15 years in cardiovascular research, as a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher at Charité–Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and as a postdoctoral fellow at the Medizinische Universität Wien and Yale University Cardiovascular Research Center. She has been a Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) since 2013.
