Dr. Barnett is certified in critical care medicine, cardiology and advanced heart failure/pulmonary hypertension. The field of critical care cardiology is a new and emerging specialty in cardiology. Critical care cardiologists have expertise in the management of patients with severe, complex heart disease and dysfunction of other organ systems that occurs as a results of or simultaneously with heart disease. Critical care cardiologists work in teams with other specialists in cardiology and other medical and surgical specialties to ensure that critically ill patients receive the best possible care for all of their medical problems. Critical care cardiologists also work closely with advanced heart failure cardiologists and cardiac surgeons to manage patients who require temporary or permanent heart assist devices and heart transplants. In addition, Dr. Barnett care for patients with pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure.
