Biography
Dr Johannes Petrus (Hanré) Herbst is a medical doctor and Internal Medicine registrar at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. He holds a special interest in Cardiology and is completing a Master of Medicine in Cardiology, with a particular interest in coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and interventional cardiology. His research focuses on improving cardiovascular risk stratification and the appropriate use of invasive coronary angiography in patients undergoing non-coronary cardiac surgery. His current research evaluates the diagnostic yield and clinical impact of preoperative coronary angiography in an African population. He is actively involved in clinical medicine, postgraduate medical education and cardiovascular research, with a particular interest in improving evidence-based cardiovascular care in resource-limited settings. Outside medicine, Hanré is an endurance athlete and enjoys running, cycling, swimming and exploring the outdoors.
