Biography
Dr. Chu-Huang (Mendel) Chen, MD, PhD, is Director of Vascular and Medicinal Research at The Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas. Internationally recognized for pioneering research on electronegative lipoproteins, Dr. Chen discovered and characterized the pathogenic roles of L5, V5, and H5 in endothelial dysfunction, thrombosis, and cardiometabolic disease, advancing the concept that lipoprotein quality—not cholesterol concentration alone—is a critical determinant of cardiovascular risk. He is currently a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Shinshu University, Japan. Dr. Chen has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and serves on multiple editorial boards, including as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine. His research spans basic, translational, and clinical cardiovascular science, with ongoing work focused on acute coronary syndromes, diabetes, autoimmune disease, and precision prevention.
